Buddy: Mike Hallack, with Laura and Spencer nearby
Highlights: Seeing the argus eel for the first time (though his 'cave' is now a small hole), lion nudis, the fact that the kelp forest at Vallecitos Pt survived the first 'storm'.
After some issues with my backup regulator, we made our way out under cloudy skies. The water was glassy on the surface and we could see the pier through the fog, so lineups were doable. Mike and I headed south of the point, while Spencer and Laura decided to start north of the point. Mike dropped us down right at Argee's hole. Unfortunately, Bubba and other movement kept the alcove cloudy with silt. After a few pictures, we headed north towards the point. There we encountered a northerly current pushing the kelp down. At Vallecitos Pt, we searched among the kelp for lion nudis and juvenile fish for a little while before starting to head back. The swim in was uneventful and we surfaced in ~8 feet of water in front of the life guard tower.
